Desert 101 Hike Explores Sonoran Ecology

Ranger Nikki will lead a Desert 101 Hike at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in Fountain Hills on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 7:00 to 9:15 a.m. The three-mile North Trail loop will focus on plants that survive the Sonoran Desert, including trees, shrubs, saguaros, and other cacti. The route is primarily level crushed gravel with some shallow sand and rocks. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and bring water. The hike meets at the North Trail trailhead, and no registration is required. Park entry is $10 cash unless you display an annual pass.
