Cooling Centers Open During Heat

Cumberland County has designated cooling centers for the hot weather expected from Thursday, July 16, through Sunday, July 19. The Spring Lake Community Library at 101 Laketree Boulevard is among the county's eight public libraries serving as cooling centers during normal operating hours. The county says the sites are intended for residents who need a cool, safe place, but they are not overnight shelters. Residents are encouraged to drink water, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, check on neighbors who may need help and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
