Sea Turtle Excavation Walk Set August 28

St. Lucie County will hold a free sea turtle nest excavation walk on Friday, August 28, from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m. on South Hutchinson Island. Environmental Resources staff and permitted biologists will examine a previously hatched nest and may release any remaining hatchlings according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission guidelines, although finding hatchlings is not guaranteed. Registration is required and space is limited, with each participant limited to one session. The beach location will be selected based on the hatching timeline and sent to registrants at least 24 hours before the walk. Participants should be able to walk up to one mile on sand.
