Volunteers Will Clean East Pond Shoreline

Residents can join a shoreline cleanup from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, August 8, at the East Pond valve area of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, 175-10 Cross Bay Boulevard in Broad Channel. Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy, the National Park Service and Sadhana will provide gloves, bags and tools. Participants should wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy closed-toe shoes and bring water and sunscreen. Advance registration is requested. Organizers say the cleanup will be canceled for heavy rain or forecast thunder or lightning.
